For the first time ever, public dietary advice was linked to physical activity because research clearly indicated a strong link between food, good health and physical activity (exercise).
At last after more than a decade of having to view a pyramid that made little sense, the USDA’s office replaced the food pyramid with a new dietary advice graphic called “MyPlate”. MyPlate is simpler and easier to understand and visually at least, makes more sense.
Although the food pyramid has now been replaced by “MyPlate” and many consider food pyramid guide to be a relic of the past, most dietitians still consider food pyramid to be relevant and that time has not taken away the basic concept of the food pyramid which was, healthy eating. The only problem with the food pyramid was that it was a bit difficult to understand (at first glance) by lay people.
